At its simplest definition, an integrated curriculum is about making connections across disciplines to deepen and enhance student learning. Curriculum integration enables teachers to create rigorous, relevant, and engaging curricula and possibly collaborate with colleagues when doing so. At this point, you have gone through the process of developing a literacy-integrated social studies unit and you now get to put one of your lesson plans into action.

 

This 5-part exam will provide you with the opportunity to teach a lesson, conference with the cooperating teacher, and write reflections about your teaching experience and teacher interview.

 

Part 1: Teach a Lesson:  Refer back to the Wk 4 – Summative Assessment: Integrated Unit Lesson Plans before completing this assignment.

  • Select 1of the lessons you created and teach it to a small or whole group of students. This lesson could be taught to students in an online classroom or in a physical classroom.
  • HARD STOP HEREin order for the submission to be accepted I will need ALL FOUR documents as evidence of having delivered the lesson otherwise I will not accept the assignment and a zero will incur. Please ensure to include the teacher name, teacher email address, school name, grade level, and the Social Studies lesson plan you selected to deliver from Week Four. Video recording is not a requirement as evidence of delivery (FERPA Laws). Also, ensure that you inform the cooperating teacher that I may reach out and have them provide detailed feedback from their observation of you delivering the lesson. 
  • Suggestions for Summer Options (if applicable):Public Schools (Summer School/Programs); Charter Schools (Summer School/Programs); Private Schools (Summer School/Programs); Tutoring Centers; YMCA/JCC (run programs during the year with certified/qualified teachers supplementing their summer salary) same with Public Libraries; VPK locations (with matriculating students to Kindergarten).
  • Reminder:Ensure you are delivering a lesson with K-12 standards curriculum and you have a qualified/certified cooperating teacher observing and providing feedback.
  • Provide the cooperating teacher with the following documents prior to teaching your lesson:

1) Copy of the lesson plan you are using for this assignment

2) Teaching Feedback Form (to take notes as they observe you teaching your lesson – let them know to be very specific and no blank boxes (ensure that there is depth and not just yes/no responses)

 

Part 2: Teacher Conference

  • Confer with your cooperating teacher after teaching your lesson to review the Teaching Feedback Form and discuss the instructional experience.
  • Interview the same cooperating teacher, using the Interview Guideto record answers about their methods for curriculum development and social studies instruction and assessment. Ensure there is depth in the responses.

 

Part 3: Teaching Experience Reflections

  • Write a 1- to 1 ½-page reflection that describes your teaching experience by incorporating information from your Teaching Feedback Form and your own impression of your teaching experience. Address the following lesson components in your reflection (I need to be sure the lesson was effectively delivered): USE THESE TITLES:

1) Setting the stage for learning

2) Lesson delivery and guided practice

3) Accommodations and modifications

4) Closure and independent practice

5) Formative assessment(s)

6) The technology used to facilitate the lesson

 

Part 4: Teacher Interview Reflection 

  • Write a 1- to 1 ½-page reflection that summarizes what you learned from your cooperating teacher interview and how you will apply this knowledge in your teaching practice. Address the following topics in your reflection (USE these titles)::

1) Lesson planning

2) Student engagement strategies

3) Assessment and the use of reflection

4) The technology used in classroom instruction and assessment

 

Part 5: Compile the following for submission (ALL FOUR must be submitted for exam and field experience review):

  • Teaching Feedback Form –must be submitted with teacher name, contact information, and school name or will not be accepted for review and a zero grade will incur. Evidence of field experience is a requirement for this final exam.

  • Teacher Interview Reflection

 

Submit your assignment. Ensure all bullet points have been effectively addressed. Submit as a WORD document only. Follow APA format and guidelines, where applicable with a minimum of 2 references, free of grammar and spelling errors. Late submissions up to four days with a 10% deduction. You may use the template I attached as your guide as you are working on finalizing your Week Four Assignment and shared in Week Two and Week Four. Covid options: Observe and deliver remotely and aside from public school settings reach out to private schools, charter schools, or learning centers for this key activity.
