History and Etiology of Addiction–Jacobs (1986) stated in his view, “addiction is a dependent state acquired over time to relieve stress. Two interrelated sets of factors are required to predispose persons to addiction: an abnormal physiological resting state, and childhood experiences producing a deep sense of inadequacy. He argues that all addictions (drugs, sex, alcohol, etc.) follow a similar three-stage course of development”. Do you agree or disagree based on current brain research?
