EDU 321 Wk 2 – Classroom Observation Preparation

The classroom observation experience is a 3-part assignment for which you will prepare this week. The experience involves a classroom observation, a teacher interview, and a presentation you will create to detail what you have learned. The presentation will be due in Week 4.

Part 1: Classroom Management Observation

Observe classroom management in an elementary classroom setting.

Use the Observation and Interview Guide for support and to record your observation notes.

Part 2: Teacher Interview

Interview the teacher you observed about classroom management.

Use the Observation and Interview Guide for support and to record the interview responses.

Part 3: Presentation

Prepare an 8- to 10-slide presentation with comprehensive speaker notes about your observations and insights after completing the observation and teacher interview.

Include the following in your presentation:

  • Summary of observation and interview
  • Examples and descriptions of at least 2 strategies to support each of the following classroom management practices:
  • Arranging classroom and learning environment
  • Problem-solving behavior challenges
  • Creating a positive learning environment
  • Using technology resources or materials to support student engagement
  • Reflection on what you learned from this field experience and how you will apply it to your teaching practice

This week arrange to observe classroom management in an elementary school classroom and to interview the teacher in order to complete this assignment.

Consider the following when arranging a classroom observation site:

  • The school district’s policies on observations (if any)
  • On-site observation restrictions in effect (may be limited to observation of a virtual class)
  • The school and grade level you’d like to observe (typically aligns with what grade you wish to teach)
  • Way to contact the teacher
  • Scheduling the best time of day for teacher and students

Submit your observation location with a brief explanation of why you’ve chosen this school, grade level, and teacher to be approved by your instructor.
