Part 1: Assessment Brochure

Imagine that your school’s parent–teacher conferences are scheduled for the near future and all teachers have been asked to discuss assessment with parents.

Research the state- and district-mandated assessments and tests for elementary schools in your area.

Access the graphic-design tool website Canva and select a trifold brochure template for this assignment. Note: You may also create your brochure using another brochure tool, as approved by your instructor.

Create a visually appealing, trifold informational brochure that will be distributed to parents during parent–teacher conferences that provides an overview of assessment and a better understanding of the role of assessment in education.

Address the following topics in your brochure:

  • The role of assessment in education
  • The importance of formative and summative assessments in the classroom
  • An explanation of the Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act as it relates to assessment
  • Names and descriptions of state- and district-mandated assessments and tests being taken in elementary schools in your area
  • Assessment technology and digital resources utilized
  • The relationship between assessment, curriculum, and state standards
  • Ethical responsibilities in relation to assessment and assessment data

Format any sources used in your brochure according to APA guidelines.

Part 2: Assessment Critique

Research examples of subjective and objective tests.

Select one example of a subjective test and one example of an objective test to evaluate.

Write a 1-page critique of each test that includes the following:

  • Description of the test
  • Practicality and efficiency
  • Fairness
  • Reliability and validity
  • Instructional planning use
  • Ability to modify or accommodate for diverse learners
  • Suggestions for improvement

Format any sources used in your critique according to APA guidelines.

Submit your brochure, the 2 test examples, and your critique.
