EED 425 Wk 1 – Purpose Reflection

Physical and health education are considered by some to be an unnecessary use of educational time. Others see them as a worthwhile component of the curriculum, as they are the only area designed to teach children how to maintain an active and healthy lifestyle.

Reflect on your own school experiences with physical education and health education.

Consider the following questions:

  • Who taught your physical education (PE) class? Who taught your health class?
  • Was your experience positive or negative? Why?
  • How active were you outside of PE class? Did you participate in any sports?
  • Were you aware of healthy nutrition as you grew up?
  • Did you find it “easier” to pay attention and/or learn after you played or exercised?

Write a 1-page personal reflection that describes your views on the following:

  • Relationship between physical activity and overall health
  • Relationship between physical activity and learning
  • Relationship between healthy nutrition and learning
  • Positive effects of integrating health and physical education themes into general education curriculum
