Read all of the following scenarios:
Scenario 1
Susan is a teen volunteer at a local hospital. After delivering the mail on the 5th floor, she enters the elevator with several nurses. The nurses are chatting about Mr. Pilkington on the psychiatric floor. One nurse mentions his diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia and provides details about the delusions observed on the overnight shift. One nurse referred to Mr. Pilkington’s daughter by name, Sue Allen, and her reports of her father’s specific bizarre behaviors.
Scenario 2
A nurse practitioner who has privileges at several area hospitals accessed her husband’s health record during their divorce proceedings. She provided her attorney with data from the records, which were offered into evidence during the court hearings.
Scenario 3
A clinician in private practice leases space in an office building owned by a Diagnostic Test Clinic XX. The clinician received a discount on the office space lease in exchange for patient referrals to Diagnostic Test Clinic XX.
As a team, review and discuss each scenario. For your presentation, for each scenario, your team will need to:
- Identify the standards of privacy, security, and confidentiality that were of concern in each scenario.
- Identify laws, policies, and regulations that may have been violated in each scenario.
- Identify what corrective actions are used when there are violations of the two bullet points above.
As a team, create a 12- to 18-slide Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation that analyzes each of the scenarios. All slides (except for the title slide and reference slide(s)) should have information on the slide itself, as well as in the speaker notes. There should be citations noted in your speaker notes when source material is used or references.
The presentation should include:
- For each scenario: A summary of the scenario (1 slide for each scenario summary)
- For each scenario: Explain the standards of privacy, security, and confidentiality involved in each scenario (1-2 slides for each scenario)
- For each scenario: Explain what laws, policies, and regulations were violated in each scenario (1-2 slides for each scenario)
- For each scenario: Identify corrective action(s) that should be recommended for each scenario (1-2 slides for each scenario)
- How can the corrective action(s) help avoid future violations?
- What steps should be taken to ensure privacy and security measures are being met in the future?
Place the name(s) of the individual team member(s) completing the work on each slide so the instructor is aware of the individual team member contribution to the assignment.
Cite any reputable references used to complete the presentation. Reputable references include trade or industry publications, government or agency websites, scholarly works, a textbook, or other sources of similar quality.
Format your presentation according to APA guidelines. Include a title and references slide.
