Discuss your experience working with QuickBooks. What problems did you encounter in navigating the software? Share the URL of a site you found helpful in troubleshooting your problems (or expect to find helpful in troubleshooting any future problems).

Chapter 1 – What are balance sheet accounts? What are income and expense accounts? Give examples of each. How is the Accounts Receivable balance checked? What are journal entries? What are transactions? What is a Chart of Accounts?

Chapter 2 – What is an audit log? Why is it so important?

Discuss the success you had in completing sales and purchase transactions in QuickBooks this week. What steps in the process did you find easiest to follow? Which did you find most challenging? If you have worked with other accounting information systems, did you find sales and purchase transactions easier to complete in QuickBooks, or the other system(s)? Why?

Chapter 3 – What are source documents? Why are they so important? Give examples of source documents along with its significance. Why are reports so important to a business?

Chapter 4 – What role do vendors play in a business? What is the purpose of inventory and what role does it play in business? What is a statement of cash flow and is it important to a business? What does “on account” mean? What does “Accounts Payable” mean? What benefit does the A/P report provide? What are debit memos and are they a bad thing?

Chapter 5 – What role do customers play in a business? What is sales revenue and how does it relate back to customers? What does “Accounts Receivable” mean? What benefit does the A/R report provide? What are credit memos and are they a good thing? What is a Trial Balance? What does an account reconciliation provide?

Chapter 7 – what are adjusting entries? What does “closing the books” mean? Define Retained Earnings and what is its relevance? What is the purpose of a “post-closing trial balance”? Define report customization and if there is a need for this.

Discuss your experience creating business expenses this week in QuickBooks. If you were explaining how to create business expenses to a colleague, how would you describe the necessary steps?

Chapter 8 – how do you determine when to use sales receipts versus sales invoices? There were several reports needing to be run for Chapter 8. Which report did you find most useful? Least useful? Explain. What is a billable expense? What purpose is the cash account reconciliation providing? Is this an important reconciliation? Explain.

Chapter 9 – how do you determine when to select the Check window and when to select Make payment on the vendor’s page? Advise on some of the transactions that you have been processing throughout this chapter. Has the process been working smoothly or have there been issues? Explain. What is an inventory audit? What benefits does an inventory audit provide?
