In Week Three we assess the Skeletal Tissue, Axial, and Appendicular Skelton and Joints. This includes the components needed to make bones as well as the various functions of the skeletal system. Bone development, formation, and maintenance are also presented. Finally, we discuss joints and the associated bones that participate with them.

Based on this week’s readings, is there more that you can do for your own bone maintenance? What actions would you take? Are you doing a good job of maintaining calcium homeostasis? Why or why not?

We also explore the relationship between bones and skeletal muscles for the production of body movements. Bottom line: we use muscles at all times.

Based on this week’s readings, what special properties of muscular tissue did you find personally fascinating? Why? If someone came to you and asked for suggestions on how to improve their ability to produce body movements, what suggestions would you give them and why?
