BIS 320 Week 1 Project Proposal Summary

Scenario: You are researching a business development idea for your company. The project should apply IT technology to your company processes to improve your business. Suggested IT business development ideas include implementing an eCommerce solution for a commercial or consumer website, a customer relationship sales/support system (CRM), or collaboration technology to improve company and customer communication and information flow.

The first step in creating a high-level Information Technology (IT) project plan is to develop a project proposal summary of your IT project in the context of your business proposal. The project proposal summary is intended to describe high-level elements of the project. The project proposal summary is a working document, which is expected to change over time during the course as new project details emerge. Your audience for this document is your organization’s board of directors, and you are seeking their approval.

Send a 2- to 3-sentence private message to the facilitator describing your IT project proposal and proceed with the assignment after you receive instructor approval.

Create a project proposal summary in a maximum of 700 words that includes the following information regarding your chosen enterprise, described in a short paragraph of 2 to 4 sentences per bullet:

• A brief description of your proposed IT project (What are you planning to do?)
• A description of the business reason for the project (Why do you want to do it?)
• How does executing this project make your company better/different/special?  (Differentiation)
• What is the competition doing to solve this problem or add this capability?
• Explain the consequences if the project is not performed. (What if we don’t do it?)
• What is the approximate budget, return on investment (ROI), and schedule? If possible, include a brief description of potential risks.
• Ask the board for approval for a specific amount by a certain date.

BIS 320 Week 2 IT Planning and Database Presentation

Your job as a Learning Team is to choose a company you are familiar with or a company where a team member currently works, and develop a new IT-related project which is based on implementing a new customer database.  Submit the company/project to your facilitator for approval before starting your research.

Select your company and project, selecting an idea to which:

• You can apply a business process management methodology.
• You can identify the steps necessary to design, implement, and manage your project.
• You can identify an appropriate type of database to use and how you would implement it.
• You can identify critical success factors (What needs to happen for project success?).
• You can identify key performance indicators (What business indicators will you measure to understand if the project is successful or not?).

Discuss the assignment with your team and identify how you will complete the assignment.

Prepare a 5-minute presentation of 4 to 6 slides on the IT-related project and why you selected it. Also present to class if in a learning classroom.

BIS 320 Week 2 Data Communications and Project Planning

Analyze IT data communications techniques and business processes that can be applied to your project based on this week’s readings (Essentials of MIS, Chs. 3 and 7).

Create a Microsoft® Word analysis of no more than 700 words that includes the following:

• Outline which type of data communications you recommend are needed for your project.
• Describe which type of project planning methodology you would recommend for your project.

Create a proposed budget for your project in a Microsoft® Excel® spreadsheet based on the recommendations in the readings. Include estimated costs for the required activities including project development and implementation, customer support, and any other element you believe should be included in your project budget. BIS 320 Week 5 IT Strategic Project Plan and Presentation

Scenario: You are researching a business development idea for your company. You have been preparing components of the project plan throughout this course. You will now pull together the four components completed in the previous weeks into a final project plan for presentation to the board of directors of your organization. The business development idea will be focused on an IT project that will improve or change your current business model to create more value for your company and its customers.

Synthesize the individual assignment deliverables from Weeks 1 through 4, including instructor corrections and recommendations.

Create an Information Technology (IT) project plan in Microsoft® Word in a minimum of 2,100 words, including an introduction and conclusion, and include the following:

• The project proposal summary that you created in Week 1, updated with recommendations and corrections from your instructor
