Final Project Overview and Timeline

Final Project Overview

The final project for this course is a compilation of information gleaned throughout the weekly readings and activities. It is designed to apply what you have learned about minimizing cultural shock through recognition of underlying perspectives of a different culture and about optimizing successful communication through appropriate interaction with people in another country.

Consider the following scenario:

The owner of a company that conducts international communications that often result in business contracts has hired you to create a guidebook to make sure that her employees are adequately prepared for intercultural interactions.

You are to compile detailed recommendations to prepare employees for encountering different perspectives, expectations, and behaviors in another culture. This guidebook will focus on a selected host country so employees will have the information necessary to communicate appropriately and develop effective relationships in the host country.

The guidebook will cover information that the employees need to know about each category to prepare for that aspect of the cultural experience. The following are categories for inclusion in the guidebook:

  1. Universal Systems
  2. Cultural Values
  3. Language and Thought
  4. Social Etiquette
  5. Business Customs
  6. Negotiation Strategies
  7. Culture Shock

Make each category a separate section of your 1,250- to 1,500-word final guideline.

Include photos, illustrations, or diagrams as appropriate. Document the source of each media item you include.

Include a minimum of five outside sources, in addition to the course text.

Format the guidebook consistent with APA guidelines.

Final Project Timeline

You should budget your time wisely and work on your project throughout the course. If you work on each category as you encounter it in the readings, you will be on the right track to successfully complete your project.
