CNSL 503R Wk 1 Discussion – Process Group: Providing Feedback to Colleagues

Post a total of 3 substantive responses over 2 separate days for full participation. This includes your initial post and 2 replies to classmates or your faculty member.

Due Thursday

This week’s discussion will provide opportunities to practice providing feedback to colleagues, which is a skill you will use multiple times in Week 2 of this course. To prepare for the discussion, watch the following mock counseling videos:

Use the Skills Assessment Rubric and the Professional Dispositions Rubric to evaluate the counseling skills employed by the counselor in the videos. Provide your feedback in a minimum of 175 words.

Consider the following questions:

  • Which behaviors and dispositions were professional and effective?
  • How did these positive skills foster rapport and effective communication? Provide examples from the videos.
  • Which behaviors and dispositions were unprofessional and ineffective?
  • How did they inhibit or prevent rapport and effective communication? Provide examples from the videos.
  • What approach would you take to provide feedback that is constructive and helpful? What are some helpful strategies or guidelines to keep in mind?
  • What feedback would be easy to discuss with the counselor and why?
  • What feedback would be challenging to review with the counselor and why?
  • How should you handle a situation in which a peer or colleague does not respond well to feedback?

Note: You do not need to submit your rubrics for this discussion, but you should reference specific and relevant sections of these documents in your discussion posts this week.

Note: The rubrics you will use for this discussion will be the same rubrics faculty will use to evaluate students in Week 2 of this course.

Due Monday

Post 2 replies to classmates or your faculty member. Be constructive and professional.
