CPSS 400 Wk 5 Team – Evidence-Based Practices in Correctional Programs Presentation

Using evidence-based practices will enhance program success. In this assignment, you work with your team to develop and propose a correctional program to be implemented for a specific population.

Your team has been tasked with creating a new correctional program to address the risk and needs of a population of individuals to reduce recidivism. There are multiple teams creating programs, but the organization only has funding to implement 2 new programs. Once your program is created, your team will present an overview to the head of your department. For your program to be chosen, it is important to convey why this program is needed and what it will do for the population and the community.

Select a population of individuals involved with the correctional system from the following:

  • Individuals entering an institutional corrections facility
  • Individuals transitioning out of an institutional corrections facility and into community corrections
  • Individuals entering community corrections without being in an institutional corrections facility
  • Individuals re-entering society from institutional or community corrections

Conduct research to determine the risks and needs of this population related to one or more of the following areas:

  • Substance abuse
  • Domestic violence
  • Education
  • Occupational and vocational training
  • Mental health
  • Emotional support
  • Sex offender rehabilitation
  • Religious support
  • Parenting
  • Language support

Design a program that will address these identified risks and needs.

Create a 15- to 20-slide Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation to showcase your program to the head of your department. Include the following:

  • Briefly describe the population that this program is meant to serve, and explain their identified risks and needs.
  • Explain the mission of the program. (This should address the risks and needs of the population.)
  • Outline the goals and objectives of the program. (This should address what the program would like to accomplish.)
  • Explain how the goals and objectives will be met. (This should address how you will accomplish the identified goals and objectives.)
  • Describe evidence-based practices to be used in the program. (This should address current research related to this type of program.)
  • Explain how this program will help reduce recidivism.

Include a reference slide at the end of the presentation.

Ensure that your presentation is engaging and includes pictures and graphics as appropriate.

Include detailed speaker notes on each slide to outline what you would say while delivering the presentation.

Format any citations within your presentation and speaker notes according to APA guidelines.
