EED 416 Week 1 Mathematics Autobiography

A mathematics autobiography is a personal description of your experiences with mathematics in and out of school. Frequently, we bring preconceived ideas and beliefs to our mathematics learning and teaching experiences. These are formed by our direct experiences with mathematics, the people who work in mathematics, and the publicity mathematics receives. Consequently, we teach the way we were taught and use the examples and language that were used with us. To help you reflect on your memorable experiences in learning math–and what those might mean to your own teaching–write a paper that represents your mathematics autobiography.

Write a 350- to 700-word mathematics autobiography.

Include the following:

  • Describe your earliest mathematics memory. Do you remember learning to add and subtract? Learning about fractions?
  • What are your personal feelings about math? Do you think you are “good” at math? Give examples. With which parts of math do you struggle?
  • Explain what it means to learn mathematics. What is important about knowing how to do word problems, fractions, or slope?
  • How might your feelings about mathematics influence how you teach mathematics?

Submit your assignment.
