ENG 100 Wk 3 Discussion – Reading and Writing in College Communications

The last two weeks, you have done some informal writing and focused on some of your own experiences. This week, you move forward and begin the practice of responding to other people’s writing. You will have a chance to form your opinion about another author’s article and develop a thesis statement that justifies your opinion. You’ll find resources throughout the week to help you do these things.

This week you will begin to use the standards of writing in an academic setting, including paper formatting, citations, and references. There are several resources and templates to help you become comfortable with APA formatting. And as always, reach out to your instructor or the University librarians with any questions you have as you go through this week’s assignments and activities.

Enjoy Week 3!

Post a total of 3 substantive responses over 2 separate days for full participation. This includes your initial post and 2 replies to classmates or your faculty member.

Due Thursday

Respond to the following in a minimum of 175 words:

  • What is your proposed thesis statement for your upcoming assignment, and what evidence could you include to support your statement? (Refer to the learning activity visual aids this week on thesis statements and the quote sandwich for guidance.)

Due Monday

Reply to at least two of your classmates or your faculty member. Consider commenting on a thesis statement that you feel is effective and why. Respond to the evidence that others have provided. What is compelling for you as a reader and why?

Be constructive and professional in your responses.
