ENG 230 Week 1 Subjects and Verbs

Throughout this course you will be working on a variety of writing assignments. Each week you will choose a different topic from the bulleted list below. If you choose your own topic make sure to obtain faculty approval prior to beginning your assignment.

Write a 350- to 700-word paper on one of the following topics:

  • Your favorite hobby or activity

  • Your career goals

  • Your solution to a problem at work

  • Another topic of your choice with faculty approval

Include the following types of sentences in your paper:

  • At least one sentence should contain a compound subject.

  • At least one sentence should contain a compound verb.

  • At least one sentence should contain a plural subject and plural verb.

  • At least one sentence should use a pronoun as the subject.

Ensure all sentences in your paper display proper subject-verb agreement.

The paper should also demonstrate verb tense consistency throughout; do not shift back and forth.

Review your paper to correct any other grammar errors prior to submission.

Format your assignment according to appropriate course-level APA or MLA guidelines. English majors should use MLA, all others should use APA. Paper templates are provided under Student Materials.
