ENG 295 Week 5 Issues in Children’s Literature

Create a 10- to 12-slide Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation analyzing issues in children’s literature. Select three of the following issues to include in your presentation. (You may also select an issue not listed as long as you seek faculty approval prior to Week Five.)

  • Gender roles

  • Censorship (by parents, schools, libraries, era-specific)

  • Violence

  • Sex and sexual orientation

  • Authorial intent

  • Race

  • Language/Lexile® scales

Analyze each issue by applying it to a specific reading from this course. For instance, if you choose censorship, select a reading that is often censored and determine why it is censored and whether or not you agree with that censorship. (Note: The discussion should be about the literature and its benefits or defects, not about personal opinion and social norms.)

Deliver your presentation and submit your presentation file or link.

  • For Local Campus, deliver your oral presentation accompanied by your slides or multimedia.

  • For Online Campus, provide detailed speaker notes in the presentation file or in a separate document.
