In Week 1, you will be introduced to the United States Constitution. During the Revolutionary War, the states agreed to the Articles of Confederation to provide for national issues in relation to the War. Otherwise, after the War, the United States was a country of thirteen autonomous states, without a national government. The Constitution replaced the Articles of Confederation. Its main purpose was to form a national government.

  • Why did the thirteen states agree to the Articles of Confederation?
  • After the Revolutionary War, why was it necessary for the States to consider the formation of a national government?
  • In regard to the rights and powers of the national government, what was the view of the Federalists?
  • What was the view of the Anti-Federalists?
  • How were these viewpoints reflected in the Constitution?
  • How are the views of the Federalists and the Anti-Federalists reflected in public debates today?
