HS 215 Week 1 Community Enrichment Centers

Imagine you are tasked with making a determination of the usefulness of community centers and neighborhood services. Consider facilities in your own neighborhood like Boys and Girls Clubs, Teen Centers, After School Programs, and other neighborhood enrichment centers. As a new member in the professional world of human services, you aren’t sure where to start.

Read the article “Do public neighborhood centers have the capacity to be instruments of change in human services” located in this week’s Electronic Reserve Readings.

Create an 8- to 12-slide PowerPoint® presentation addressing the following in your presentation:

  • What is the goal of community centers?
  • Why is there a focus on providing services to low-income populations?
  • What happens when populations live in rural areas, with little access to services, what are options for these populations?
  • Do you feel technology should be made available to all users at a public library, addressing the question, should student users at the public library be able to access social media, play games, and utilize dating sites?
  • How should decisions be made when it comes to members of the community?
  • What elements do you feel should exist in a neighborhood advisory board?
  • What keeps community centers open? Have you noticed in your own city, and community centers that have closed due to economics? If so, which ones?
  • What is meant by a community center purpose to be a “one stop shop” for its participants and citizens?

Format your presentation consistent with APA guidelines and include citations, speaker’s notes as needed.

Submit your assignment to the Assignment Files tab.
