Search the Internet for images. Type free images in the search. Most images on the Internet are personal property and contain a copyright. Do not use any copyrighted images during this course.

Acquire 12 noncopyrighted images.

Create a folder titled My Images.

Save the acquired images to the My Images folder.

Read the instructions in Appendix B for compressing folders.

Compress the contents of your My Images folder.

Open IT image 04 New Zealand and save the image.

Modify the image by changing the color of the ocean to green, the hills to brown, and the sand to black. Frame the image with a border.

Save the photo as W3 Photo Color Replacement(JPEG, high quality).

Submit the compressed photo.

 

IT 235 Week 4 Photo Manipulation Assignment

The individual assignments in this course build on each other to design and develop an image banner that can be used as a website masthead or for other electronic and print publications, such as report covers. The client is the City of Kelsey government, found in the Virtual Organizations. This assignment is due in Week Four.

Review the City of Kelsey website to determine the style and message this client is trying to depict. Select a noncopyrighted photograph that communicates this message appropriately. Include an image citation for your photo.

 

Compare the original photo to the following techniques:

  • Optimize the original photo for the web, and save the optimized photo. Place the optimized photo on a PowerPoint® slide with your description and file information.

  • Crop and resize the photo. Place the cropped photo on a PowerPoint® slide with your description and file information.

  • Retouch the cropped photo using a correction or color adjustment tool. Place the retouched photo on a PowerPoint® slide with your description and file information.

Create a 3-slide Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation that compares the original image and file information to three different image editing techniques. List the file format, size, and image resolution on each slide. Include a brief description of your technique and any tools used.

Create a background on a canvas that is 675 x 150 pixels.

Place the finalized photo from Week Four on a new layer.

Blend the transition between the background layer and the photo layer using gradients, feathering, transparency, or blurs.

Add another graphic element on a third layer.

Practice the principles of effective composition, such as purpose, balance, color, alignment, and so on.

Submit the banner as a JPEG file that is less than 200 KB.

Cite the incorporated photo from the previous week, in addition to this week’s graphic.

Create a one-page brochure or collage.

Include two occurrences of text, two objects, two shapes, and one type of mask.

Integrate a minimum of three text effects into the logo.

Incorporate the design elements already established by the client, such as their logo, color scheme, and motto.

Remove the white background, or make this layer a transparent GIF.

Add legible text to the banner, reflecting the client’s message.

Submit the final banner as a JPEG that is 675 x 150 pixels and less than 200 KB.

IT 235 Week 8 Banner Peer Review

As image creators, we may become attached to our work. That attachment may make it difficult to see how our work is received by an audience. Peer reviews provide a valuable opportunity to provide and receive feedback when creating a successful final product.

Perform a peer review of a classmate’s banner. The banners will be randomly assigned from the assignments delivered in Week Seven. Fill in each block of the Peer Review Checklist from Appendix C.

Post the completed Peer Review Checklist.

Kudler Fine Foods has used commercial stock photography brokers for the images on its website and for its print advertising. Kathy Kudler says she’s proud of the fresh, organic products she is selling and wants to show the products for sale in the stores’ advertising. In addition, she says she wants to showcase actual store displays and feature employees in the ad campaigns.

Over the next 9 weeks, you will analyze the pros and cons of outsourcing the photography to a professional photographer or creating the infrastructure to take the photographs in-house. You will prepare an 8- to 10-page paper that discusses your analysis and sets forth recommendations. You will also prepare a 7- to 10-slide Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation of the project.
