Mission statements provide a business’ purpose and goals. They can be difficult to develop due to the amount of detail a business wants to provide prospective clients. Mission statements should be concise and offer insight into the business.

Identify a small businesses and read its mission statement and strategy on the website. Provide a summary of the business and discuss the following:

• What is the business’ mission? What made the mission statement clear or unclear to you?
• What competitive advantages does the business list? Are there advantages not listed but can be assumed?
• What tips (either positive or negative) does this mission statement provide you for developing your own mission statements?
