MKT 431 Wk 1 Discussion – External Marketing Elements

Post a total of 3 substantive responses over 2 separate days for full participation. This includes your initial post and 2 replies to classmates or your faculty member.

Due Day 3

Respond to the following in a minimum of 175 words:

Poppa Joe’s Pizza has been a staple in the community since 1993 but has seen a steady decline in popularity since 2017. “Poppa” insists that everything should remain the same in the shop, on the menu, and in the décor (the same red-and-white-checked tablecloths). He comes from the “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” school of thought.

Poppa Joe’s son, Vincent, just graduated with a marketing degree and wants to shake things up by bringing the restaurant up to date. He has proposed changes due to external factors that include new menu items, an advertising campaign, a face-lift for the dining area, delivery tracking, and Wi-Fi.

This is an example of a business in flux. We have all witnessed both a successful market adjustment or an epic failure to adjust.

Imagine that you are on Vincent’s marketing team and think about a time when you have seen a business make a change with one of the external factors below. Explain your suggestion for what might make sense for Poppa Joe’s to focus on next.

  • Trends
  • Taxes
  • Competition
  • Regulations/laws (federal, state, local)
  • Available talent pool
  • Economy
  • Costs for materials
  • Weather
  • Insurance/licensure requirements
  • Global pandemic

Due Day 7
