Identify a social issue, such as domestic violence, child abuse, homelessness, business ethics, or international human rights violations.

Obtain facilitator approval and propose a campaign according to the instructions in the Week #4 Team assignment.

 

Part 1

1,750- to 2,100-word APA paper that develops a campaign for an intervention strategy that addresses your issue. Your campaign should be designed to persuade the target audience you identified in your Altruism Proposal to take action for your cause and the people at-risk.

Include the following items:

About the issue:

  • Discuss the nature and history of your issue.

  • Examine the effect the issue has on society.

About your strategy for persuading others to help

  • Select at least two elements of persuasion utilized in your campaign.

  • Justify the use of these elements by connecting them to various motivations of altruistic behavior as identified in social exchange theory.

About the campaign itself

  • Who is the target audience

  • How will you make contact with the target audience

  • How will you present your persuasive campaign to the target audience

  • Discuss the implications of your strategy in terms of intervention and prevention.

 

Part 2

Prepare a 10- to 12-slide Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation that you would make to your target audience to persuade them to take action.  The goal of the presentation is to convince the target audience to join you in the campaign against the social wrong you are addressing in the paper.  The power point is not to teach the target audience about concepts of social psychology, so it should not include slides about course concepts such as the  elements of persuasion, altruism, social exchange theory) covered in the paper. (This would be like putting a statement on a billboard saying why you chose the attractive model or the color blue.) Since the Power Point is directed at the audience, you can use information about the nature of the problem. In the speaker’s notes for each slide, just put one sentencethat gives the rationale for what is on the slide. 

 

What about this slide makes it convincing or educational? Ex: This slide uses the face of a celebrity to add credibility. Do not repeat what is on the slide.

Include at least four references in your presentation. Some or all references may be used for both the paper and the presentation

Format consistent with APA guidelines.
