Post a total of 3 substantive responses over 2 separate days for full participation. This includes your initial post and 2 replies to other students.

Due Thursday

This week you are introduced to religions that are part of the Indian culture, including Hinduism, Jainism, Sikhism, or the Gods and Goddess of the Sanatan Society.

Select one of these religions, and imagine yourself as a person for whom this faith is their devotional practice.

Describe one day in this life:

  • What are your daily rituals, common holidays, and core beliefs?
  • What ideas might hold symbolic meaning?
  • What people or movements might be important?
  • Be as creative as you would like when imagining another perspective, however, please be sure to include details about rituals and core beliefs that connect to the readings or course materials. (Keep in mind, this discussion task is to consider differing world religions, so if your personal faith is on this list, please challenge yourself by selecting a different one.)

After writing your response, review the instructor’s comments or your classmates’ posts. Pick something that was meaningful for you, and offer feedback about what you learned from reviewing their comments. Share any observations or questions about Indian religion that may stem from your curiosity.

Due Monday

Reply to at least 2 of your classmates. Be constructive and professional in your responses.

Buddhism is the focus of our study this week. After reviewing the course material on this subject, please also reflect on your own life in response.

How might a Buddhist philosophy respond or relate to the demands of modern life (like peoples’ dependence on technology, less face-to-face communication, or desires for more money)?

  • What basic beliefs of Buddhism would prompt that response? Be sure to compare and contrast Buddhist history, teachings, or the life of the Buddha to the experiences of modern life in your response.

After you have completed your own response, read the observations of your

instructor or peers. What did they discover that you might not have considered? What observations did they have that seemed especially relevant?
