RES 351 Week 2 Learning Team Charter

Overview

In this course, your team will work together to complete a few assignments. This chartering assignment is designed to help you apply your project management skills to understand the scope of your project, then break the project into goals, tasks, responsibilities, resources, and milestones. The assignment also asks you to discuss and answer some questions that will lay the foundation for developing your project.

Beyond the Standard Charter

You will notice that this chartering process goes beyond your standard University of Phoenix Charter by helping your team create a project plan for team success by providing you with opportunities to define your deliverables, recognize the connections between the deliverables and other classroom activities, determine your timelines and milestones, identify each team member’s expected contribution, and answer questions that lay the foundation for building your projects.

Putting “I” in “Team”

Important to note is the section for defining learning team expectations related to participation, collaboration, communication, team contributions, assignment deadlines, and other considerations. Please take the time to discuss and document how your team will address each area and any challenges that may arise.  It is important to understand that we are “Putting ‘I’ in ‘Team'”. In short, we will recognize and reward individuals according to their contributions to team output, not according to their team membership. This means that individual grades may be different from the team grade depending on each individual’s contribution to each team deliverable.

Completing this Assignment

To complete this assignment, please do the following:

Review the Charter and Project plan.

Review the weekly Learning Team deliverables.

Complete the provided Learning Team Charter and Project Plan, including the following: team member contact information, project by week, learning team expectations, team discussion questions.

Identify a business research project in your own business or locate a business research article in the library related to a business in the same industry.

Create a 1,050-word analysis in which you create a set of ethical research guidelines for the research.

Include the following:

  • Summarize the business research project or article.
  • Determine the potential unethical research practices that should be avoided in this project.
  • Identify those parties involved in the research that could face injury. What injuries might occur?

RES 351 Week 3 Preparing to Conduct Business Research, Part 1

Purpose of Assignment

The Week 3 Learning Team assignment is part of a 3-part assignment that takes students through the research process.  Part 1 is designed to introduce students to the basics of research such as identification of an issue or problem and how it is determined that the issue is worth researching.  This type of research can be related to virtually any business environment.

Assignment Steps

Scenario: The team is a cross-functional team interested in conducting a research project. The team must prepare a detailed proposal and presentation for the executive team that details the scope, magnitude, and feasibility of the project as well as the potential approach.

Select an issue, opportunity, or problem facing one of the team member’s place of employment or organization with which the team is familiar.

Develop a 700-word discussion of the potential project that addresses the following:

The importance of peer-reviewed studies is vital in business research.  Students will have the opportunity to find examples of peer-reviewed sources to both apply to their research in this course, but also to help understand the importance of using scholarly sources in general.  Students will also use this assignment to dig into the various stages of research including purpose, the research hypothesis, variables, and design methods.

Assignment Steps

Locate at least two peer-reviewed, business-research studies based on the industry in which you work or would like to work.

Develop a 1,050-word evaluation of the critical first stage of the research studies:

  • State the purpose of the business research for each study.
  • Determine the research questions and hypotheses being researched in each study.

The Week 5 Learning Team assignment is the third part of the cumulative Learning Team project.  This part of the assignment gives students the chance to determine the best approaches to the design of the research such as qualitative versus quantitative and then looks at the sampling process.  Students continue using their same study and look at real world business issues that can be related back to their own work or desired employment.

Assignment Steps

Create a 700-word assessment of the nature of the research design.

Include the following:

  • Discuss whether the business problem could be solved using primarily qualitative or quantitative research design.
  • Discuss the benefits of using both designs in the research study.
  • Determine which design (qualitative or quantitative) will become the primary research design.
  • Discuss how to use the power of each design most effectively.
  • Discuss the drawbacks of using just one of the designs to research the problem.
  • Determine how to obtain the sample including the sampling method and approach.
  • Discuss the insights each type of design might generate and the importance of those insights in solving the business problem.
