VCT 241 Week 1 Individual: Company Flyer

Throughout the course, you will develop a company flyer using the skills you learn in each week.

Select a company with which you are familiar, this can be a company you have worked with in the past or present, or another company.

Prepare a 1- to 2-page proposal for your flyer, and submit to your instructor for approval.

Be sure to include the following:

  • Your company selection and reasons why you selected this company

  • Your plans for the flyer, the type of graphics and text you will include, and some possible layout ideas

  • Research sample corporate/company flyers or brochures online to get an idea of what they might look like. Provide at least 2 samples you believe are representative of what a good company flyer might look like.

Cite your sources where necessary.

Submit the Microsoft® Word document using the Assignment Files tab.

 

VCT 241 Week 1 Individual: InDesign CC Essential Skills

Review Lesson 1, “InDesign CC Essential Skills,” from InDesign CC Digital Classroom.

  1. Place some of your own graphics (copyright free) into the 4-page newsletter that you edited in Lesson 1.

  2. Practice cropping and repositioning the graphics within their frames.

  3. Move objects to other layers, and create your own layer to further refine the organization of the file.

VCT 241 Week 1 Individual: Working Smarter With Master Pages

Review Lesson 2, “Working Smarter With Master Pages,” from InDesign CC Digital Classroom.

Create a 4-page InDesign® document that includes the following:

  • Master pages with page numbering, running headers, and running footers

  • Content on a page that is linked to a master page

  • Custom page sizes (other than standard 8 1/2 ” x 11″) with .5″ page margins all around

  • Wrapping text around an object on a master page, displaying the use of that text wrap on a page within the document

VCT 241 Week 2 Individual: Recipe Design

Create and submit a 5″ x 7″ design using InDesign® showcasing your favorite recipe. Include all of the following elements.

  • Create and apply 2 unique paragraph and character styles

  • Include at least two different fonts, text colors, and text sizes, all defined through styles

Zip your InDesign® document and submit using the Assignment Files tab.

 

VCT 241 Week 2 Individual: Applying Text Formatting and Styles

Review Lesson 3, “Working With and Formatting Text,” of InDesign CC Digital Classroom.

Continue with this lesson, and complete the following:

  1. Starting on page 1, navigate through the document and apply styles to all text, including body, byline, drop cap, and headline.

  2. Change the color of the body text and redefine the style.

  3. Turn on Show Text Threads, anduse the Selection tool to select the linked text frames on page 5.

  4. Create a new page at the end of the document, and drag the frames to the new page.

  5. Return to page 2 and see if the story jump automatically updates.

  6. Make a new headline box on page 7, and type in a fictitious headline.

  7. Format the headline using the headline style as a starting point. You may need to adjust the size depending on how many words you enter.

Zip your InDesign® document as id03LASTNAME_work.zip and submit using the Assignment Files tab.

 

VCT 241 Week 2 Individual: Company Flyer

Based on your approved Company Flyer topic from Week One, build the first draft of your flyer to include all of the following elements:

  • 2-page document (could be considered a 1-page flyer, double-sided when printed)

  • Custom formatted master pages

  • New styles including character and paragraph styles

Add your basic information including content, headers, footers, contact information, etc. Apply the new styles to these elements.

Zip your InDesign® document and submit using the Assignment Files tab.

 

VCT 241 Week 3 Individual: Company Flyer

Based on your feedback from the Week Two Individual Assignment, apply edits based on your instructor’s feedback. Then, continue editing your informational flyer to include the following elements:

  • Graphics (copyright free)

  • Formatted tables

  • QR Code

  • An image where the background is removed using clipping paths and alpha channels Graphics (copyright free)

VCT 241 Week 4 Individual: Designing Effects in InDesign

Review the following lessons from InDesign CC Digital Classroom:

  • Lesson 7, Designing With Color

  • Lesson 8, Getting Creative With Effects

Create a 700×400 pixel web advertisement for your own graphic design company. Include the following elements:

  • Objects with various opacity and effects

  • At least two custom color applications of various strokes and fills

  • A placed image that uses transparency

  • An applied gradient

Zip your InDesign® document as id04LASTNAME_work.zip and submit to the Assignment Files tab.

 

VCT 241 Week 4 Individual: Profile Page

Create an 8-1/2″ x 11″ newsletter page for your classmates. Your profile should include all of the following:

  • Where you are from?

  • What is your area of study?

  • What are your career aspirations?

  • Also, include a fun photo of yourself.

Think about how these sections will share common elements, and design master pages to create a consistent design across these sections.

Use headers, footers, guides, text frames, and picture frames on your master pages.

Apply the use of custom colors, swatches, and spot colors; application of effects to stroke, fill, object, or text.

Zip  and submit your InDesign® document using the Assignment Files tab.

 

VCT 241 Week 4 Individual: Company Flyer

Based on your feedback from Week Three’s Individual Assignment, apply edits based on your instructor’s feedback. Then, continue editing your informational flyer to include the following elements:

  • Creation of at least 2 custom color swatches.

  • Application of those colors to various elements of the flyer

  • Application of color to stroke and/or fill of shapes, tables, or images.

  • Creation and application of a gradient

  • Object transparency

  • Drop shadow

Zip your InDesign® document zip and submit using the Assignment Files tab.

 

VCT 241 Week 5 Individual: Company Flyer

Finalize your Company Flyer based on your instructor’s Week Four feedback. Then, prepare your document as a digital document, applying the following:

  • Add a piece of multimedia content. Create a button to control the multimedia content.

  • Create a hyperlink for each of the following elements:

    • to another page in the document

    • an email address

    • a URL

  • Apply a page transition

Be sure to save and preview your document, then export it as an interactive PDF.

Submit the PDF using the Assignment Files tab.
