EED 430 Wk 2 – Summative Assessment: Integrated Unit Outline and Overview
Review your state’s social studies standards for the grade level you wish to teach; choose the discipline(s) and 2 or 3 closely related standards to address in your unit:
- Civics
- Economics
- Geography
- History
Review your state’s English language arts (ELA) standards for the same grade level and choose the literacy discipline(s) and 2 or 3 closely related standards to address in your unit:
- Reading
- Writing
- Speaking and listening
- Language
Review the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Standards for Students and choose 2 to 3 technology standards that you plan to address in your unit.
Review the Digital Tools for Social Studies article. Examine and select 2 tools mentioned in the article or from your own research that can enhance the lessons and deepen student engagement in your unit.
Part 1: Integrated Unit Outline
Create a 1-page outline for a literacy-integrated social studies unit that includes the following:
- Unit summary, to include:
- Grade level and overarching theme for unit
- Selected social studies and ELA disciplines and content standards
- Selected ISTE standards
- Lesson summaries for 2 separate lessons, to include:
- Topic
- Brief description of learning
- Standards alignment
- Assessment summary, to include:
- Formative assessment options for each lesson (must vary in delivery and assess both content and technology standards)
- Summative assessment options for the unit
Part 2: Integrated Unit Overview
Write a 2-page unit overview for your literacy-integrated social studies unit that includes the following:
- Unit statement that describes the following:
- Connection between the social studies and ELA standards
- Relevance of each lesson to the overarching unit theme
- Unit plan for incorporating technology tools, digital tools, and other resources, to address all three below:
- Current events
- Community resources
- Simulations
- Unit strategy for using all three instructional practices below:
- Student-centered learning
- Inquiry-based learning
- Culturally responsive instruction
- Unit justification that explains why this is an elementary grade level appropriate unit of study
Submit your assignment. Ensure all bullet points have been effectively addressed. Submit as a WORD document only. Follow APA format and guidelines, where applicable with a minimum of 2 references, free of grammar and spelling errors. Late submissions up to four days with a 10% deduction. You will build on this week two assignment in weeks four and five. You may use the template I attached as your guide as you are working on finalizing your Week Four and Five Assignment. Also, schedule a time to observe a classroom and deliver the lesson as part of your field experience in Week Five, if you have not done so already. Covid options: Observe and deliver remotely and aside from public school settings reach out to private schools, charter schools, or learning centers for this key activity.
