Imagine you are a new 3rd-grade social studies teacher in a city public school where your classes consist of a culturally and socioeconomically diverse mix of students. Since this is a new environment for you in terms of instruction and classroom management, you research to learn about strategies and practices that have worked well for other educators in practicing culturally responsive instruction. You put these new methods to use and find that your classroom experiences have improved for your students as well as yourself. Fellow teachers have expressed interest in learning more about the methods, and you offer to present what you have learned.

Include the following in your presentation Title of the component on separate slides followed by bullets just like the layout below:

  • An introduction that includes the following:

  • Description of a culturally responsive learning environment
  • Culturally responsive teacher behaviors that demonstrate the following:
  • Understanding and appreciation for all cultures
  • Respectful and positive interactions
  • Culturally responsive student behaviors that demonstrate the following:
  • Understanding and appreciation for all cultures
  • Respectful and positive interactions
  • Culturally responsive instructional strategies that address the following:
  • Lesson delivery
  • Adaptation techniques
  • Multiple perspectives
  • Cooperation and collaboration strategies for working with other teachers to support culturally responsive instruction
  • Culturally responsive materials, books, and/or digital tools

 

Write a 1- to 1 ½-page outline that summarizes a plan for a school-wide implementation of culturally responsive instruction and learning environments.

 

Include the following elements in your plan outline:

  • Vision statement
  • Timeline for implementation (specific schedule with successive activities and dates/weeks/months it will take)
  • Overview of topics to be covered in teacher training(s)
  • Suggested resources for teachers – be specific and align it to the topics above

 

Compile the following for submission:

  • Presentation
  • Plan outline

 

Use one of the following tools to develop your presentation (do not share the file with me but upload it):

  • Google Slides (ensure the links work)
  • Microsoft PowerPoint
  • NO Speaker Notes

 

Submit your assignment. Ensure all bullet points have been effectively addressed. Submit as a Microsoft PPT and WORD document Follow APA format and guidelines, where applicable with a minimum of 2 references, free of grammar and spelling errors. Late submissions up to four days with a 10% deduction. Also, schedule a time to observe a classroom and deliver the lesson as part of your field experience in Week Five, if you have not done so. Covid options: Observe and deliver remotely and aside from public school settings reach out to private schools, charter schools, or learning centers for this key activity. Summer options(if still applicable): Charter, Private Schools, YMCA, library, Tutoring Centers.
