ENV 315 Wk 1 – Conservationist Versus Agriculturalist

Identify a farming or other type of agricultural activity (such as a dairy, livestock operation, etc.) in or near your community, state, or region. Suppose a conservationist has complained about the methods used on this farm.

Prepare one file with an APA cover page that contains two different letters with two different views on the issue. The paper consists entirely of these two different letters. Since each letter is 350 words minimum, the minimum total length of the paper is 700 words, which does not include the title page or reference page. All factual material in the paper needs to be cited in the text in APA format – usually (author, year) for paraphrased material or ideas, or (author, year, p. #) for direct quotes. Cites should always be in the sentence instead of after. Only references cited in the text are included on the separate reference page.

Write a 350-word (title page and reference page do not apply toward the required word count) letter from the conservationist’s point of view in which you include the following:

  • Identify six negative effects the agricultural activity could have on the environment.
  • Explain how the activity could be altering the physical environment, including vegetation soil quality, and other ecosystem impacts.

Write a 350-word (title page and reference page do not apply toward the required word count) plan, acting as the owner or manager of the farming or agricultural activity.

  • Use The Human Impact on the Natural Environmenttext to identify methodologies that may alleviate the conservationist’s concerns.
  • Explain the process of implementing the methodologies, including cost-related issues.

Format the document with APA guidelines (Click on the Center for Writing Excellence link below for help with APA formatting, if needed). The paper needs to include:

  • Properly formatted title page with page number 1 at the upper right and no Running Head. The title of the paper (and only that) should be in bold font.
  • Properly formatted paper with title repeated on page 2 in bold font, page numbers, subheadings, etc.
  • Properly formatted in-text citations (which is not just a url).
  • Properly formatted reference page using the hanging indentation format in alphabetical order by author. Only references cited in the text may be listed on the reference page.

Utilize at least two references that are different than the course materials. Course material references can also be used, but at least two additional references need to be used as well.

Submit your assignment, which is one document (one file).
