You are beginning your fourth year of teaching third grade at Roosevelt Elementary School, and you have been asked to serve as a literacy coach at your school. As a goal this school year, the district reading specialist wants to ensure that parents and families are familiar with the stages of reading development and factors that affect student success or failure in reading. She asked you to develop a presentation for parents and families that covers these topics.

To prepare for the presentation, you are asked to discuss the following in a minimum of 175 words:

  • Do you believe that all elementary teachers are reading teachers? Why or why not?
  • Consider all the factors that play a role in a child’s reading development. Refer to Ch. 11 in your text, Understanding Reading Problems. Which factors do you believe have the greatest impact? Why?
