Resources:

  • The Lynda.com® video “Word 2016 Essential Training” with David Rivers
  • The “Sample Business Memo” in the Tutorials & Guides section of the Center for Writing Excellence website, paying attention to APA guidelines
  • Ch. 2, Section Q2-2, “How Can Business Process Modeling Help Organizations?”

You have recently been hired as an Information Systems Administrator with a small company that has been growing very rapidly. The company has simple IS policies, systems, and documentation. They do not yet fully understand how to successfully leverage IS to run the business more efficiently. It is your job to help your team understand the roles that information systems play in supporting business processes. Your first step is to educate your team on Business Process Modeling (BPM) and Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN) which is an international standard for creating business process diagrams.

Write a 700- to 1,050-word memo using Microsoft® Word to the Information Systems Team with a subject of “Business Process Modeling and Business Process Modeling Notation.” The IS Team Lead, Kelly Kim, is to be copied (CC) on the memo. Use today’s date. Address the following items in the memo:

  • Clearly define the terms “data,” “information,” and “knowledge” based on the readings and discussion from this week.
  • Clearly define the term “business process” based on the chapter readings and videos from this week
  • Clearly define BPMN
  • Accurately describe how BPMN illustrates the flow of information in a business
  • Clearly define the term “swim lane” as it relates to BPMN based on the chapter readings and videos from this week
  • Accurately describe each symbol that is used in BPMN in detail based on the chapter readings from this week
