BSCOM 324 Week 1 Getting Started in Communication Research

Write a research question within an area of communication research in which you are interested in answering, i.e., relational conflict, media messages, organizational communication, etc.

Complete the following based on your research question:

  • Write a one-tailed hypothesis that relates two variables that you have an interest in exploring. You should use different variables.  Please see your textbook for additional support.

BSCOM 324 Week 1 Ethical Considerations in Communication Research

Write a 700- to 1,050-word paper highlighting the ethical considerations necessary in communication research. Use one of the hypotheses (either the one-tailed or two-tailed) you developed this week and design a hypothetical study to test it. Be sure to address each of the following ethical implications that may occur as you design your study.

  • Will participation be confidential or anonymous? What would you prefer if you were a participant of this study? Why?
  • How might the wording of your questions asked by your study affect your research?
  • What deception might be required by your study, and on what basis might you justify this deception?
  • What are the potential risks for research participants for participating in your study?

Format your assignment according to appropriate course-level APA guidelines. Be sure to use proper APA format; see the provided sample APA paper in the online classroom.

Submit your assignment to the Assignment Files tab.

BSCOM 324 Week 2 Qualitative Method vs. Quantitative Method Comparison

Write a 750- to 1,050-word paper that explains the best approach to research communication that occurs in online education environments.

Address the following:

  • Articulate the strengths and weaknesses of qualitative, i.e., ethnography and observation, versus quantitative methods, i.e., surveys and experiments, for your selected research focus.
  • Provide one research question regarding communication in online education where a qualitative research design would be most effective. Specifically describe the design and why this would be best for this research question.
  • Provide one research question regarding communication in online education where a quantitative research design would be most effective. Specifically describe the design and why this would be best for this research question.

Format your assignment and all sources according to appropriate course-level APA guidelines. It’s also assumed that when you are asked to submit APA papers, you understand that means including: A Title page, Reference page, Abstract, Running Headers, Subheadings, Proper Citations, and that they are written in third person.

Collaborate as a team and complete a 5- to 7-slide Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation summarizing your team’s findings on emotional appeals in advertising.

Submit your presentation with the following information:

  • Research question and hypothesis
  • Definition of the content to be analyzed
  • Sample of the universe of content (at least one advertisement from each person’s sampling)

Submit your assignment to the Assignment Files tab.

BSCOM 324 Week 2 Survey Development

BSCOM 324 Week 4 Measuring Validity In Ad Campaign Effectiveness

Write a 1,050- to 1,400-word paper that addresses Parts I and II of the assignment.

Part I

The reports should evaluate two different ad campaigns. Ensure that each ad campaign is evaluated from both a qualitative and quantitative research perspective.

  • Assess the degree to which the reports you selected were from academic sources and the criteria you used to make that evaluation.
  • Reviewany data regarding the reliability and validity of effectiveness data present in each article’s reports.
  • Analyze the strengths and limitations of the research methods that were used in the reports to evaluate the effectiveness of each of the ad campaigns.

Part II

Select an ad campaign of your own interest. It can be a political campaign, PSA or a campaign for a product; it is up to you.

Create a hypothetical evaluation research proposal to evaluate the effectiveness of the ad campaign. Address each of the following in the research evaluation proposal:

  • Assess how well the ad campaign will reach the targeted population and the level of anticipated response from the population to the ad campaign.
  • Analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the different types of measures that can be used to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed ad campaign.
  • Indicatethe proposed research measures that you think would successfully determine the effectiveness of the ad campaign.
  • Describe your sample and sampling method, and justify your decision for selecting this sampling frame.
  • Explainthe sampling calculation method you chose and, based on this method, calculate the sample size you would need.
  • Explain the statistical methods you chose for analyzing data collected.
  • Explainhow you would assess the validity and reliability of your measures.
  • Evaluate the strengths and limitations of the evaluation research proposal.
  • Evaluate the degree to which the results from the ad campaign evaluation study can be generalized to the target population.
