ENG 215 Week 2 Presenting Your Case: Week 5 Final Project Topic Rationale

As a part of the Week 5 Persuasive Research Paper and Presentation, this week you submit a topic and present your rationale for its selection. Your topic may be from the following list, or you may ask your instructor for approval on a topic of your choice that argues your personal position on a controversial topic that you think is worthy of public debate. The topic must be current; part of an ongoing debate; or a relatively new, unknown topic that you think deserves more attention, such as:

  • The role of innovation in the marketplace
  • How corporations can serve the cause of social justice
  • Gender-based income gap
  • The impact of disposable products and packaging in the marketplace and on the environment
  • The role of media in shaping public opinion
  • Alternative approaches to public school education
  • Stereotyping the millennial generation
  • The emerging dangers of climate change

Refer to the Opposing Viewpoints database available in the library for assistance in selecting a topic.

Write a 350-word paper in which you describe your focused topic, the rationale for choosing the topic, and the main supporting points of your proposed argument.

Include responses to the following in your paper:

  • What types of rhetorical appeals will you make to argue your position?
  • What other basic elements of an argument will you use?
  • What is an example of an argument you can make for your paper? Identify the claims, evidence, counterargument, and rebuttal you can use.

Review your paper for effective use of basic English grammar, word usage, and sentence style before turning in your paper.

Format your paper consistent with appropriate course-level APA guidelines.

Submit your paper to the Assignment Files tab.
