This week’s focus is on foundations in children’s literature. Alphabets, chapbooks, and picture books are staples of children’s literature. You will identify key attributes of these different genres and explore their significance to the study of children’s literature. Explain the importance of illustration in these books, which is a key to these genres.

 

Create a 8- to 10-slide presentation with speaker notes where

  • Explain the importance of illustration in literature for children.
  • Include at least 2 pictures from the readings this week and cite them properly.
  • Address examples from 3 stories among our required Gutenberg Project readings this week and use the 2 reserve readings (University Library Readings) and the textbook (at least once) for information required below.

 

Include a description of the key attributes of children’s:

  • alphabooks
  • chapbooks
  • picture books.

Attributes should include line, color, textual effects, shapes, composition, and narrative quality of the images.

 

Note. Your presentation must take the form of a Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation unless you request an alternative presentation and receive permission from Prof. Sowers at least 3 days prior to the due date.

 

Seek facilitator approval on your delivery method if other than PowerPoint.

 

NOTE: Use at least 2 sources from the course reserves (University Library Readings) and also, the textbook at least once for this and every assignment in this class. Failure to include these will result in a major point deduction.

 

Watch “Death by PowerPoint” and other YouTube videos before you start your assignment for information on effective, academic and professional PowerPoint presentations.

Use stories, poems, and at least 2 course reserve readings and the textbook once from the required readings to complete this and every assignment in this course.
