This week focuses on the oral traditions of children’s literature. Folktales, myths, and fables from around the world have been looked at in an historical and cultural context. For this assignment, explore the moral purpose of fables and folktales you have read.

 

Select one of the following options to complete the assignment.

 

Option A

 

Write a 550- to 700-word paper that includes the following:

 

  • An explanation of the moral purpose and the strategies used by the author to teach that moral purpose in 1 fable and 1 fairytale, respectively

 

  • A discussion of the historical and cultural significance of 1 substantial myths and 1 legend from among the readings for Week 3

 

Use at least 2 academic sources from the library reserve articles (University Library Readings) and use the textbook at least once to help you explicate the history and cultural significance of your chosen stories.

 

Format your assignment according to appropriate course-level APA guidelines.

 

Note: Students who are enrolled in the BA in English program may be required to use MLA formatting.
