Post a total of 3 substantive responses over 2 separate days for full participation. This includes your initial post and 2 replies to other students.

Due Thursday

Respond to the following in a minimum of 175 words:

The 21st century has been an extraordinary time of change, in both positive and negative ways. Americans now live under the threat of terror. Our society is characterized by economic inequality, a decline in social services, the rise of mammoth corporations, and the slow-motion crisis of climate change. At the same time, there has been much good as people have responded to the uncertainty. Average Americans continually help victims of natural disasters, advocate for the vulnerable and the marginalized, volunteer time, and give money to charities.

  • In what ways has the United States changed in the last two decades since 9/11?
  • Generally speaking, do you think the United States has learned from history? Are we progressing as a nation?
  • As Americans, are we pessimistic or optimistic about the future? Explore at least one of the following in your response: the creation of TSA and DHS, airplane safety improvements, deportations of illegal immigrants/Dream Act, the gun control fight, marriage equality, Occupy Wall Street, minimum wage demands.

Due Monday

Reply to at least 2 of your classmates. Be constructive and professional in your responses.
