SEI 301 Week 1 SEI Models Visual Organizer and Analysis

Review the “Structured English Immersion Models” reading.

Create a visual organizer that illustrates and explains the three components of SEI models (policy, structure, and classroom practices) for an elementary grade level. Include a section that illustrates the differences between SEI

Write a response to each of the following scenarios:

  1. Your elementary school has 14 EL students in first grade and 4 EL students in second grade. These EL students are all at the Pre-Emergent or Emergent levels. According to the Student Grouping for SEI Classrooms (Structured English Immersion Models, 2014) how should these students be placed for optimal instruction?
  2. Your school has 16 EL students at the Intermediate level who have been in English language development instruction classes for at least one year. These students are in a self-contained sixth-grade classroom. The Arizona SEI model (Structured English Immersion Models, 2014) allows for some flexibility in the instructional model. How may these students be instructed during the school day?
  3. Your school has 10 EL students in a ninth-grade class. These EL students are all at the Pre-Emergent, Emergent, or Basic level. The school counselor has signed these students up for an English Reading course and an English Writing course. Is the counselor meeting the time and course requirements for these students? If not, what is missing?

Submit your assignment.
